DAIRY DEVELOPMENT WITH VENTURE CAPITAL FUND
 FINANCED BY LAKHIMI GAONLIA BANK

Kaliabar Sub-division is the middle place on national Highway No.37 connecting Guwahati and Dibrugarh. There are two business centre, viz, Jakhalabandha and Amoni on NH- 37 which are located in Kaliabar Sub- Division where the main business is restaurants and eating houses. Since these two places are at the middle of Guwahati and Dibrugarh and the passengers of almost all the day and night buses as also the taxies and private vehicles use to take breakfast, lunch and dinner. So there is great demand for milk and milk products. Now the milk is supplied from distant places like Jagiroad and Sonapur.

There is a Dairy Development Society namely Kamdhenu Dugdha Unnayan Samity having 60 members with 2-3 cross bred cows. As the members are unable to keep more cows of their own the Bank had approached the Society and decided to finance the members to purchase more cows. To create awareness among the members the bank organized two awareness camps in the last part of 2005 with the help of NABARD. Then the bank selected 31 members for financing under Venture Capital Fund for purchase of 4 to 6 cows depending upon the project. Total investment is Rs.87.00 lacs including Venture Capital Fund.

Before bank finance the average daily milk production was 500 litres and after completion of the project daily production will be 1500 to 2000 litres as estimated. If this production is continued throughout the year the business community in particular and the people in general will not feel the shortage of milk any longer.

Moreover, there will be generation of additional employment such as carrying of milk, processing of milk, making of sweets etc. In the long run industries like chilling and pasteurization plant may also grow generating more employment avenues.
